Seems like a scaled down take on Sony’s excellent 200-600 G, a lens Canon really needs to copy.
This for $2k plus the new flagship X-H2S body they just announced with animal and bird af for $2.5k will be a pretty interesting, (relatively) inexpensive, and compact wildlife setup, assuming the af is actually any good.

Unlike the RF 100-500, Fuji's telephoto zooms tend to be noticeably soft on the long end—at least the XF 100-400 and XF 55-200, which I owned for years. The newer XF 70-300 follows suit and adds an extremely nervous bokeh to the equation. Maybe this lens will be different but I would wait and see.

So basically, the 150-600 f/5.6-f/8 is about physically equal to a 100-400 f/4-5.6 with about a 1.4x teleconverter on it. Maybe a tinch more than 1.4.
82 mm filter, relatively slow aperture. But probably a very good lens, even if not bright enough in some cases. Fits in a typical bag, I imagine, and fairly light overall compared to an f/5.6 or f/4 600 mm lens.

Canon definitely created huge buzz for wildlife with animal eye detect and 600 f11. Now everyone is trying a different approach and consumers definitely win.
The lens looks the game; also quite extreme long range at 900mm equivalent. 2.4m mfd and 225mm short end are big counters.. if it’s also soft on the long end then it’s losing quite a bit appeal.
Nice comparison between rf 100-500: equal to 160 to 800 equivalent with r7 32mp traditional sensor… vs 225 - 900 on a 26mp meh-stacked sensor (worst read out of any stacked sensor according to dp review) package price is absolutely identical.
But 100-500 is also a benchmark full frame lens when you don’t need tiny subjects e.g. people and landscape details.
