The isolation of customers looking for more affordable, quality options is the greatest weakness of Canon RF right now. They’re focusing far too heavily on the migration of its professional customers to RF, that they’re neglecting one of the greatest strengths the EF mount had: options. They very badly need to get some f/1.4 options available in the $1,000-2,000 tier and open this mount up for third-party competition that influenced some EF lenses. Like the Sigma 85mm Art preceding the EF 85mm f/1.4L.

they don't "very badly" need to do anything different then they already are, last I checked they are continuing to lead the market, enough of the "canon is ******* if they don't do this" garbage. I'm happy with the offerings so far.

Let me underscore this.

If I look around me, and try to guess who the market leader is, Nikon has it by a mile. I see more of their cameras and when the local camera shop (yes we have one!) holds a sale, they sell a boatload of entry-level Nikons. I hardly ever see Canons or Sonys in the wild here.

That of course turns out to be wrong if one extrapolates it to the global or even just to the national level, which is Neuroanatomist's point.
If I look around me, I notice that 3 out of 4 friends who take photography seriously have Leicas. With me, that's 4 out of 5.
Ergo: Leica is the leading camera company with an enormous market share.

A handful of people responding to incendiary (not to mention nonsensical, histrionic, and clichéd) posts is not "ganging up". This forum is very polite compared to most online spaces. Doesn't seem like you read what was actually written, but if you agree with the OP that makes sense. Patiently explaining why Canon might be making potentially frustrating or confusing decisions is not expressing superiority, it's keeping the discussion within the bounds of reality. If anyone is acting superior, it's the poster calling everyone who disagrees with them "sheeple".
Like the original commenter, I’ve been reading this forum for years but don’t contribute much here. I see the same 5-10 people in here commenting on the majority of the posts with a few occasional posters. You guys have your little group of Canon warriors and bully, shame, and “ridicule” as another poster commented as justified. You guys continue to enjoy your little circle jerk, that’s fine, but don’t expect the forum to be a diverse mix of opinions if you’re jerks to everyone else. Have fun with that—I’m out. Canon gets the community they deserve, I guess.

that 200-400 price is probably going to be crazier than theEF version. I was hoping that the rumors of an RF 200-500 were true and that maybe Canon would make it a 2x teleconverter, but wishful thoughts I suppose. The real win however is that the price of the EF 200-400 will probably drop by a few bucks soon

Unlike many regular posters here, you have never shared images, and from a quick peruse never helped anyone out with technical advice. Your comments seem to mainly be in the form of complaints, about Canon or other forum members. Given that, if you're really 'out' then it's no real loss to the community.

A make over of the 400mm f/5.6L would be nice, especially if stays light and relatively cheap. If it has IS and a better than 1:2 magnification ratio, I would be interested.
Switching between the RF100-500L and EF180L makes me appreciate just how nice dual nano USM is, it feels like the body is holding back the lens, the EF180L is very clearly holding back the body.
I think they could basically take the RF800/11, reduce the FL, and add an aperture ring to get an RF400/5.6. But they would also have to upgrade the body from plastic to metal and weather seal it to make it an RF400/5.6L. Maybe additive composite?

I will definitely not buy a Sony again (had an A7 ). My worst camera ever.
Either wait for the RF 135 to be priced like in the US, or simply keep using my wonderful EF 135 F2.
I will never try again a Sony, unless they start paying attention to what really matters, namely ergonomics and service. One Sony cured me!
The pricing of one single lens is no "ship-jumping" argument. Except in a forum...
And, if you are honest, that the RF costs more is true, but twice as much is simply untrue.
The RF costs 2.7k€, the GM 1.5k€. This is ridiculous.
But I can hold my Milvus 135, not too bad of an IQ ...

Waiting the prices coming down???
The RF50 1.2 is priced 2.7 k as well. I got it for under 2.0k two years ago ....

Glad to have a new rumor, even if It is for a lens that I am unlikely to ever own (whatever it may be).

This site was overdue for some fresh rumor meat to chew on.

I see that in the first four pages, we've gone through about a half-dozen or so totally unrealistic unicorn wishes with a healthy dose of "Nikon/Sony are kicking Canon's rear" thrown in for good measure, followed by the usual string of insults and trotting out of limited sales data.

Putting in my two cents:

Canon is a conservative company. I am just guessing but I expect the next Big White will be an RF version of an existing EF lens (300mm 2.8; 400mm F4 DO; 200-400 F4 w/1.4; 500mm f4) are likely suspects. If they do decide to switch it up, my guess would be a 500mm f5.6 DO instead of the 400mm.

However, getting back to reality, it is probably more likely that they will just release an RF version of an existing EF lens.
I don't think Canon to be a conservative company.
Canon has the balls going new ways, i.e. 800 11, 600 11, RF100-400, all are impressive, so are the price points. These lenses are set up to find new nature photographers in a market (price, weight) more occupied by MFT & APS-C.
I do not expect Canon just to follow Sony or Nikon but to find high selling additions to the product range after covering the top selling essentials (i.e. 600 4.0, 400 2.8).
I expect Canon to implement a prime (with built in TC) within the weight/size frame of a 200-600, basically same flexibility, better IQ, faster aperture at the short end - and a prizing just where pain kicks in.

You don't make money in the middle of the market, you make money with a 3k 85 and a 0,5k 85 (btw: the latter is not too bad at all).
And Canon is interested to make money.

Please no more f/11 lenses. WalMart sells disposable film cameras with faster lenses ☹️
I doubt you have ever seriously used a 800 f11 for birds, ...
Other than WalMart they offer sharpness, great IS and good AF.

But the most relevant thing: They provide a market opener with unbeaten price, weight and size for an 800mm prime lens.

Canon has demonstrated a tendency to release lenses that are relevant to upcoming cameras. We all know a flagship will be announced late this year or early 2024 so I tend to believe it’ll be a high-end lens. My preference would be the replacement for the 200-400 f4 1.4x however I wouldn’t be disappointed if it’s an RF 300 2.8 1.4x either.

The EF200mm f/1.8 and f/2 is very similar to a 300mm f/2.8 in both size and production cost so an RF version be very pricy as is to be expected from the shortest Great White. If it's under $5000 USD it'll be a bargain
Well, there go my hopes :) No, you're right, it'll be around 7.000 €. I'm just tempted with an F2 super tele, but I don't see me buying it ever. Less than 5.000 € as a preowned might be worth a a thought in like 2032 or so.
