And again Canon is slower than the competion. Once again. God knows for what reason. Is it again the in-house developed CMOS sensor or some other reason. I thought that they invest heavily in R&D. A few years back actually they even updated the whole workflow with the single reason to get faster.

Is it the economics and the market not ready for the flagship. Still 85 MPs and more DR sounds just right for me. But when was the last flagship developed? How many years back? And we still hadn't seen the mirrorless flagship.

Bravo, CANON. you are bigger procrastinator than me ;-)

The last flagship, defined by Canon as the EOS 1D X Mark III, was introduced in 2020.

For the past decade, Canon has released a new flagship model every four years.

2024 would be right on schedule for Canon's next flagship.

Poor choice of words. I have to admit, indeed.

What i meant was ironically: mirrorless flagship. As good as never?

And it isn’t like all technologies aren’t here, patented or invented.
Also the elephant in the house:
* Z9 - last year 45 MP beats - October 2021
* Alpha 1 - 50 MP beast - January 2021
* GFX100s - similar features on 100 MP Medium Format BSI as R3…. Let’s not mention it’s a second generation already - and again before Canon even got its first generation.

* BSI tech…. Pleeeaaaaseeee don’t start me on that one!
* sensor stabilization - geeee again about 10 years behind the competiton.

Should we discuss the price tags? Canon is giving prices as if they are the Haselblad of the mass photo pro equipment market. No matter they are so behind the competition.

Dual pixel tech? The biggest fail of them all.
As far as I hear the only true killing tech is the new AI AF focus.

So, yeah…. Feel free to to correct me again mr. Clark.

I’d be happy even with an r5 as long as they implement BSI CMOS in it and that amazing focus AI. And it’d be nice to remove the video limit of 30 min. It’s 2023 not 2013. Why sport shooters should have it and the rest not?

Yeah. I’d also would love to transfer wireless RAW files to my iphone. AFAIK they still let’s you transfer wirelessly only the JPGs on the fly.

And if you ask me about the rant - I am stuck with canon glass But a change could happen with my next upgrade. ‘Cause I hate when a corporation is holding back tech on purpose (yeah r6m2 - no reason for the lack of BSI). And when they are milking us with old tech. Do you remember all the patents released by Canon for the last 15 years?

@Czardoom, hide yourself, please.

Confirmist like you happy with all a certain company is offering with no idea what else is on the market are far from happy.

Professionals can and will always manage with any piece of equipment when necessary. Cause we have no choice. We have to deliver no matter what the circumstances are. Does that make me a happy monkey? NO! I ain’t happy with the status quo!

Frankly, I don't understand you at all.
You are dissatisfied with Canon's current offer. That's OK.
So, why do you waste your precious time criticizing Canon on forums, instead of simply replacing your Canon gear with Nikon's or Sony's? If competition is so much better or advanced, jump ship!
Resale value of Canon gear is high, so what the heck?
Sterile and redundant picking on a brand is just a waste of time...

Action requires effort and expenditure. Probably the explanation is as simple as apathy and insufficient business revenue to support switching systems.

Complaining here is easy and free.

I would be glad to hide myself, but when I read a stupid, ignorant post, I sometimes feel the need to reply.

Some people understand that it takes 3 to 4 years (or more) of development to come out with a brand new camera, so the flagship cycle of 4 years is not unusual and yet seems to baffle and irritate you.

Not sure why you are so hung up on BSI tech. It is essentially the same as an FSI sensor in all specs. It does not enhance speed, and it's increased light gathering ability is most noticeable in small senors, not FF, or even crop.

Canon sensor stabilization is class leading for FF cameras. Yes, Others had it first...does that matter now? Not to anyone buying a camera now.

It sounds, quite frankly, that you have no idea what the competition is offering. If it was so much better, I think even you , would not be so stupid as to remain with Canon.

Happy New year to you.

It seems someone, and it isn't you, Czardoom, has conflated the advantages of BSI sensors with the advantages of stacked sensors, which also have a key disadvantage: the cost to produce them.

I think the R1 would be delayed because Canon is developing a new higher resolution (+45 MP) stacked BSI sensor because they need it to compete with Nikon and Sony cameras, and they're not going to reuse existing sensors for it.
Nikon has a 80+ MP beast in development. Canon is so far behind, I don't know if they will ever catch-up.

Yes, it will indeed be hard for Canon to catch up with Nikon's glorious market share. Maybe they should stop selling cameras the first 9 month of the year?

i`m not sure the typical user of an R1 want 80+ MP. That would make a lot of things like prossesing a sending a lot slower. I use R3 and Eos 1d mkIII everyday and I also have an R5.

At the moment, the R3 is by far the best camera. To claim that this camera is worse than Sony is a lie. At high iso it's about the same. The Canon may have slightly better colors and is much better with flash. Perhaps a little worse at focus than the Sony and especially the problem that eye-controlled focus is not able to switch automatically between height and width images is a huge problem. It can also be a little easy to accidentally change settings when using it, compared to the EOS 1dx. The EOS 1d mkIII has the advantage that it starts immediately and does not have the delay that the mirrorless ones have. So if you don't quite know when and where things are happening, it's clearly best, but it's noisy. I really hate the R5. It sucks at Iso above 3200. The autofocus is average and the built-in transmitter is pretty bad. I know many people who have replaced the R5 with the R6 because of the poor light sensitivity.

In addition, professional users often do not buy a new camera until the old one has worn out. Therefore, people are happy that R1 will arrive in the summer of 2024.

Stop thinking that the R1 has to be the equivalent of the 1D X Mark III. It will be more the equivalent of the 1Ds mark III. The R3 is the equivalent of the 1D Mark IV/1D X Mark *n*.
